Today the European Parliament has voted in favour of the Eurojust & Montenegro cooperation agreement. This is a very important step to more effectively tackle issues such as organised crime and terrorism in Montenegro and across the EU. We have shown how effective we can be at tackling crime by working with our European partners and this will be another positive step towards a safer Europe.
This agreement will deliver better cooperation and coordination between the EU member states and Montenegro in the field of justice and law enforcement when dealing with cross-border crime and help make Europe safer. It includes approving a Liaison Prosecutor for Montenegro to Eurojust to better improve coordination with the EU and expanding the exchange of information across borders.
In my role as Chair of the European Parliament Delegation to Montenegro I can only welcome this agreement which is a very important achievement as part of Montenegro's accession process. It further enhances Montenegro’s integration into EU institutions and helps to foster the rule of law and economic growth by more effectively fighting organized crime.
