I proudly launched the South East Challenge – three days of campaigning in the key seats in the South East that Labour must win in May.
The South East Challenge kicked off on Friday with Milton Keynes South, Reading West and Crawley, before heading on to Hove, Brighton Kemptown and Brighton Pavilion on Saturday, and finally, on Sunday campaigners finished by visiting Hastings and Rye, Dover and Deal, and Chatham and Aylesford.
During those three days, we had over one thousand conversations with local residents, on their doorstep, finding out about their hopes and concerns, and hearing about the impact the Conservative-led government has had on their lives.
In Milton Keynes, I spoke with local resident who was concerned about MK hospital, currently doing its best to make ends meet with increased demand this winter. This was followed by a discussion with the mother of a home-help in Hove, who was really worried about her daughter's own mental health, as she struggled from one overly-brief session with an elderly person to the next, and frequently worked longer than the hours she was meant to. And in Brighton, I spoke to a young man who was eager to vote Labour for the first time, as he saw the problems his friends were having on zero-hours and short-hours contracts, and wanted something done to change things. I also spoke to some people who felt that 'politicians did not listen to them'. But by listening to their concerns and having our local Labour councillors and parliamentary candidates act on them, we will have shown that not all parties are the same, and that Labour really is actively on their side.
I would like to thank everyone who joined us, including our fantastic team of candidates, organisers and volunteers. I am so very proud to be part of our Labour South East team and I know that together we can, and will win this May.
If you couldn't get out on the doorstep to campaign for Labour this weekend there is still time; your Labour South East team is out campaigning every day between now and 7th May.
You can find out more information about your nearest key seat and how you can get involved here.
