Today, Anneliese was delighted to welcome her first visitors' group  to the European Parliament following her election in May.

The group consisted of 'uniformed public service' students and their teachers from Andover College in Andover, Hampshire.

After the group was shown around the parliament and the plenary chamber, the students and Anneliese talked about how the European Parliament works, what the day to day life of an MEP looks like and the differences and similarities between the UK political system and the political system of the European Union.

Anneliese also highlighted some of the main political issues she is dealing with in her role on the Economic Committee, such as the fight against youth unemployment and tax evasion by multinational companies and making the financial system safer and more transparent.

Since many of the students were interested in careers in the field of defence and foreign policy, they also discussed the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union.

The visit was rounded off by a discussion about Belgian chocolate, weather and comics.
