Improving the protection of puppies and other pet animals

According to a Dogs Trust investigation, puppies are illegally trafficked by commercial sellers into the UK on a daily basis. Illegally transported puppies are forced to travel long distance in unsuitable containers, separated from their mothers at a too young age, come with fake pet passports and are sold without the correct health vaccination, which also fuels concerns about the possible spread of rabies.

Together with animal welfare organisations, I am fighting to end this illegal trade and for tougher licensing and registration regimes.

Asked three Parliamentary Questions to the European Commission (here, here, and here) to ensure a tougher regime of licensing and registration to end the illegal trade in smuggled puppies and to ensure that the current EU legislation to protect pet animals is properly enforced:

Campaigning to protect migratory birds in Montenegro - Ulcinj Salina

Campaign against hunting of protected birds in Malta

Fighting against the illegal wildlife trade

Export of live animals to non-EU countries

Ban on animal testing for cosmetics

Sustainable food production
