Improving human and social rights in Montenegro

Today, the European Parliament has voted with an overwhelming majority in favour of a resolution on Montenegro.

During debates on this resolution, I successfully pushed for strong references to the rights of LGBT people in Montenegro, improving women's access to the labour market and increasing women's representation in politics (currently only 17% of MPs in the Parliament of Montenegro are women). I also worked hard to ensure that it had a strong social dimension and included calls to strengthen social dialogue and to fight poverty, social exclusion and tax evasion. I'm really pleased that we now have the support of the European Parliament for a resolution which puts human rights, the rule of law and social rights centre stage.
