Export of live animals to non-EU countries

Together with the NGO Compassion in World Farming, I have campaigned to end the transport of live animals such as cattle, pigs and sheep from the EU to non-EU countries because of the great suffering this trade entails for the animals.

The EU exports over 3.4 million animals a year to non-EU countries. The animals suffer greatly during this long-distance transport. Once they have reached their destination, they are also no longer protected by EU legislation and can be kept or slaughtered in systems that would be illegal in the EU. This is a very cruel trade and needs to end.

Wrote two letters to the European Commission calling for an end of this cruel trade (here and here), co-signed a letter on the issue (here) and asked one Parliamentary Question on the issue:

Campaigning to protect migratory birds in Montenegro - Ulcinj Salina

Campaign against hunting of protected birds in Malta

Fighting against the illegal wildlife trade

Improving the protection of puppies and other pet animals

Ban on animal testing for cosmetics

Sustainable food production
