End of bullfighting subsidies

Anneliese has today pledged to vote against using the European Union's budget to subsidise farmers breeding bulls for bullfighting.

There are funds in this year's EU budget which could be spent by farmers who raise bulls specifically so they can be used as part of this cruel and inhumane sport. As an animal welfare campaigner, Anneliese is completely against allowing this to happen. That's why on Wednesday, she will vote for an amendment to prevent it.

Anneliese said: "I am really please that Labour Members of the European Parliament voted in favour of this amendment in the committees on agriculture, environment and budgets respectively and will support this amendment in the plenary session this Wednesday. Taxpayers' money should not be used to pay for practices like bullfighting, which go against all animal welfare standards."
